The last chapter of the first arc going into a month off in Aug! LOTS going on in this excellent issue! Also, we have some collected updates on the 2nd Wild Storm book, “Michael Cray.” Does this issue find any closures or does it just leave us with more questions? And where will the next arc lead us?

The Wild Storm Chapter Six Meanderings
Warblade and Wetworks!
The first mention of both Warblade and Wetworks. Apparently, in this incarnation, a two-person Warblade unit is something that is a part of IO’s Wetworks! The two-person Warblade unit was definitely hardcore enough that I could see why they were Wetworks, …
…. but nothing about them spoke to me that would fit any obvious and literal assumed description of a Warblade unit. There’s more to it.
Maybe these guys are Wetwork because of how much blood there’ll be when they’re involved ha ha. Just continue reading below. And perhaps the ‘blade’ part of Warblade is metaphorical for them being the ‘blades,’ instruments of war and death?
Maybe Reno Bryce will show up later as a member of Wetworks as a Warblade,.. who um … is also a comicbook artist with green hair ha ha.
Ok,… this could possibly explain any future reference to Michael Cray as Deathblow ….
… if only this guy would die.
Nice suspenseful pacing and use of paneling here …
Deathblow, ladies and gentleman
A bit graphic no? Reminds of me of Ellis’s stuff from Avatar Press.
Wow, this guy finally dies! Great action sequence here! Very cinematic, ala John Wick and Atomic Blonde!
Michael Cray joins StormWatch
It’s interesting how characters you’re familiar with are crossing paths and joining teams they were never known to be affiliated with in the original incarnation.
Another example is The Engineer who looks to be joining the WildC.A.T.s as you’ll see later.
I just like some of the humor that’s in this book and in this series in general. It’s refreshing, so it’s not always the same tone.
This is AWESOME! Yes! Ever since The Wild Storm #3 where we saw silver liquid coming out of her head, I had wondered if we’d ever see Void as we’re familiar with – head to toe covered in silver.
I originally thought that maybe somehow the silver liquid would eventually cover her body! But this is SO much better! This is much less cliche than what I had thought would happen!
She is actually ALL silver, and she is just wearing …. skin? Or maybe it’s fake skin that was created for her so that she could feel more human and fit in?
The Wild Storm Universe
This issue does a good job of almost summarizing all the players, and brings together many of the pieces that had already been laid out. Not to necessarily describe how the ALL of it fits together, but it’s like a recap, setting up what this universe is all about, the status quo and setting just before the next season of a show.
Here, Marlowe basically describes Halo and possibly the future WildC.A.T.s mission statement.
And here, a little history on the team he’s currently gotten together: Adrianna, Cole and Kenesha.
What we learn:
Adrianna he saved in 1986.
Cole, he saved 10 years ago, which would be 2007 if this is currently 2017.
Kenesha … she’s trouble, always ha ha
What about John Colt???
Also, it’s interesting how both Marlow and Bendix are always looking for alcohol!
Here, Marlowe lays out who and what IO is.
SkyWatch (StormWatch/Division) and ….
…. IO vs SkyWatch
Marlowe goes on to explain what Skywatch is, and their dynamic with IO and why IO would let SkyWatch take all of space.
Mars Expedition 1955
Ok,.. this image was just thrown in there, kinda outta nowhere almost. It’s supposed to signify some connection or importance. The image itself is out of context in that it’s almost like an insert from another scene, as in this scene, there is NO reason why either of them would take out a lighter about to light it, unless they were going to light up the alcohol or show the other person, but we don’t know, cause there is no follow-up to that image … yet? SO, either it’s actually a cliffhanger to this scene, OR, what I think it is, is just an inserted image to indicate some connection and importance as in The Wild Storm #3, we also see Jenny using the same exact lighter!!
Ok, so what about the Mars Expedition in 1955 has to do with Jenny, Marlowe, SkyWatch and IO??
Here Marlowe is also referring to himself possibly having to have drunk pee to survive elsewhere than Earth. Ok, is this a suttle hit that he’s an alien, or that at some point he was stuck off Earth somewhere and had to survive?
Perhaps it was back in 1986, while also stuck in space, he rescued both himself AND Adrianna? Maybe it’s because of what happened to Adrianna that was the catalyst for Marlowe to be able to save himself, and he rescued Adrianna as well?
A random cryptic image of VooDoo again just to remind us she’s still somewhere as a part of this whole puzzle.
Speaking of puzzles
We are again shown Jenny’s Board that was first seen in The Wild Storm #3 (Click link to see some in-depth analysis)!
And that’s The Wild Storm Universe!
Kenesha aka Savant … and trouble!
Here, we learn a little more about Kenesha. She’s an alien, a Kheribum like Zealot and …. Marlowe!
more WildC.A.T.s Mission Statement and …
… there it is, the official invite for Angie to join the WildC.A.T.s!
Fire From Heaven
Henry Bendix figures out that the tech Angie is using is reverse-engineered tech from a “Breslau II counter-detection system from the 1970s” and he’s pissed, cause it’s stolen tech, from HIM!! SOOO, he retaliates by “Rain(ing) fire from heaven!” Fire From Heaven either a coincidental or actual homage to one of the original WildStorm crossovers!
Final Thoughts: The Wild Storm TV Series/Film (animated?)
The first thing I thought after reading this issue was, The Wild Storm movie anyone?! Yes, Please! Actually, I imagined that they’d do an animated film first as testing grounds, esp. since Warren Ellis has been writing for TV. Has anyone seen Castlevania!?!?! Pretty good right?! Could The Wild Storm animated film or series be far behind?!?
And even though this issue doesn’t answer any big questions, I don’t think it’s meant to. I believe in the next arc, we’ll be introduced to more “new” characters and will be following them along with characters we’ve already been introduced to along with a few new things. Essentially the first arc sets everything up for the inevitable war, and future premise of the new WildStorm Universe.
Great issue! Best one so far! Can’t wait for the next arc in Sept. 2017!
Other Reviews for issue #6
Michael Cray Update
Update from Orbital Operations July 17, 2017 – Warren Ellis’ Newsletter
THE WILD STORM #6, out July 17. Last one with a Jim Lee variant cover. The next six variants will be done by my old mate Bryan Hitch, which delights me no end.
(The secondary variants on the first six issues were all by my friends, which was incredibly kind of them: Afua Richardson, Jason Howard, Jason Masters, Declan Shalvey & Jordie Bellaire, Jamie McKelvie, and Tula Lotay, who, as you read this, should have just become a mother!)
And we just locked the creative team on the second Wild Storm book, MICHAEL CRAY. You may remember that the plan from the start was for four titles. I am particularly proud of the team we (myself and Marie Javins) have put together for this book, and look forward to the announcement in a month or two.
THE WILD STORM: MICHAEL CRAY #1

Michael Cray, professional assassin, has been betrayed by International Operations and has an alien life-form in his head that’s either killing him, transforming him, or both. But Michael needs support and resources to hit back against I.O., and he gets them in exchange for working with Trelane, taking out her targets, his way. First up? A sociopathic
silicon-valley billionaire by the name of Oliver Queen!
