The Super-Man #2 [Super For The Soul 3]

I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about for the third post.  At first I thought I might write about the Suicide Squad movie and Rebirth comic,.. but instead, I decided to do a follow-up to the previous post with the second issue of The New Super-Man.

“Made in China” part two! The New Super-Man must face off against the Justice League of China? When Kenan Kong was imbued with the powers of Superman, he didn’t waste any time using them! Now it’s up to the New Bat-Man and New Wonder-Woman of his home country to bring our hero back down to earth—just in time to stop the attack of the deadly Sunbeam! – Official solicitation

With the second issue, already we see that even though Kenan’s father slightly represented who Jonathan Kent was to Clark Kent/Superman, Kenan’s father is very different.  His father may have some of the ideals of a superhero like Superman, but he doesn’t see it as something that he’s instilling in his son.  Jonathan     Kent was there for Clark every step of the way as a child to help mold him into who he became.  Jonathan knew Clark was someone very special and that he would grow up to do great things for the planet.  Kenan’s father is absent and needs to be convinced that his son could perhaps one day embody the things he believes in. The New Super-Man #1 – Super For The Soul [SFTS 2]

This is my second “Super For The Soul” post, and my first official post not about ‘what it is.’  I haven’t really nailed down the format yet, and still playing around with what this will actually end up being even after having written a statement about ‘what it is.’

Official Solicitation:
“MADE IN CHINA” Chapter One: An impulsive act of heroism thrusts an arrogant young man into the limelight of Shanghai as China begins to form its own Justice League of powerful heroes. Rising from the ashes of The Final Days of Superman, award-winning writer Gene Luen Yang and on-the-rise art star Victor Bogdanovic introduce readers to Kong Kenan—the New Super-Man! When the world needed a new hero, China made him!

There is so much that can be discussed about and explored about this book in general. like the cultural, societal, racial, political, and global contexts, and their implications in real life and within the DC Universe.  What does it mean to be a hero in China?  How does China view Superman?  Is he their hero too?  Does that effect China’s views on this New Super-Man?  All these questions, but alas, that’s not the focus of this post.

SPOILERS!    SPOILERS!    SPOILERS!

Lady and the Tramp [Jaysen Headley’s Vault Disney #15 Companion]

This week I’m talking out of my ass about Lady and the Tramp.  I saw this when I was really little.  I think I actually saw it projected from a projector.

Vault Disney #15: Lady and the Tramp

The following are notes as I barely watched the film, and now adding in some annotations.  Missing the of whole point watching it YAY!  This in a way is an exercise in writing.  Bad writing, or just writing for the sake of writing for yourself without being judgmental.  If you actually want a post about this film that’s constructed with thought and provides a review of value (here’s that self-judgement), you should read Jaysen Headley’s post on Lady and the Tramp!  Continue reading Lady and the Tramp [Jaysen Headley’s Vault Disney #15 Companion]
