Olive Hui a.k.a. Pineapple O [Super of the Day]

My first Super of the Day, Olive Hui, really is a Hero for every day.  So what makes her Super?

Who is Olive Hui, a.k.a. Pineapple O

She is the creator of New York Real, an actress, artist, musician, content creator, student and warrior of life, and human.  She’s been an inspiration and good friend to me for years.  I think I met her through acting, and we connected instantly as if our souls had known eachother from previous lives.  Right away when I met her, talking and connecting, I knew she was a super caring and thoughtful individual that experienced life deeply.  Since we met, I’ve always known Olive as someone who constantly was learning new things and discovering how she could put them to use in her life.  She would see something that inspired her, and she would investigate and inquire, always experiencing and connecting with new people to learn from.  She would take what she’s learned and make it a part of who she was, and set out to learn more.

With the second issue, already we see that even though Kenan’s father slightly represented who Jonathan Kent was to Clark Kent/Superman, Kenan’s father is very different.  His father may have some of the ideals of a superhero like Superman, but he doesn’t see it as something that he’s instilling in his son.  Jonathan     Kent was there for Clark every step of the way as a child to help mold him into who he became.  Jonathan knew Clark was someone very special and that he would grow up to do great things for the planet.  Kenan’s father is absent and needs to be convinced that his son could perhaps one day embody the things he believes in.

There is so much that can be discussed about and explored about this book in general. like the cultural, societal, racial, political, and global contexts, and their implications in real life and within the DC Universe.  What does it mean to be a hero in China?  How does China view Superman?  Is he their hero too?  Does that effect China’s views on this New Super-Man?  All these questions, but alas, that’s not the focus of this post.

The ‘Super For The Soul’ Project [SFTS 1]

I need a super hero.  I want Superman back.

Of late, I’ve been really feeling that I need more hope and inspiration in my life.  Hope in humanity and in my dreams.  I KNOW there is hope in humanity, I see it once in a while, but I can’t even watch the news anymore, it’s so depressing.  Even our super heroes have gotten too dark.  I feel like I’ve gotten to a place in my life that I thought I’d never be, a place where maybe I’ll have to accept that the dreams I’ve grown up pursuing will not come true.  I’m very grateful for all I have, I’ve VERY lucky, but I have always told myself that I’d rather die than be depressed without any hope for my dreams, to live only to survive.  In my mind, there was no other outcome, no alternative.
